Call for Applications: One-Month Research Stays at BARI (2 positions available)

 The Border and Regional Studies Institute (BARI) at the University of Opole invites applications for two one-month research stays for researchers from institutions outside Poland.

The research stays are organised within the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence BARI project and are intended to support the development of research competencies, strengthen the internationalisation of BARI’s academic activities, and contribute to the objectives of the project.

  • Number of positions: 2
  • Duration: one month
  • Place: Border and Regional Studies Institute (BARI), University of Opole, Opole, Poland
  • Earliest possible start: February 2027
  • Scholarship: 3000 EUR
  • The stay may also be organised as several shorter periods, provided that their total duration corresponds to one month.

Who can apply?

The call is open to researchers who are not employed by Polish scientific institutions and whose proposed research stay is relevant to the thematic scope and objectives of the BARI project: https://inopia.uni.opole.pl/bari/

Particular consideration will be given to proposals that demonstrate a clear connection with BARI’s research interests and activities, including border studies, regional studies, cross-border cooperation, European integration, border regions, minorities, and ethnic and linguistic diversity.

What does the research stay involve?
Applicants are expected to propose a research programme to be carried out during their stay at BARI. The programme should specify:

  • the planned period of the research stay;
  • the main research activities to be undertaken at BARI;
  • the expected scientific outcomes;
  • the expected organisational or networking outcomes;
  • a contact person at the host institution responsible for the stay.

An important element of the stay is cooperation with a representative of BARI. One of the expected outcomes is the preparation of a scientific article developed in cooperation with a representative of the host institution.

Selection criteria
If more positively evaluated applications are received than places available, and the proposals are considered equivalent, selection will take into account:

  • the applicant’s scientific achievements; and
  • the standing and prestige of the applicant’s sending institution.

Applications will be reviewed by BARI members in accordance with the project rules. Formal approval of participation is granted by the BARI Project Manager upon acceptance of the completed application form.

Obligations of the selected researchers
Researchers selected for the stay are expected to:

  • carry out the research stay in accordance with the approved programme;
  • actively participate in relevant BARI research activities during their stay;
  • prepare a written report following the completion of the stay, describing the activities undertaken, skills and competencies acquired, and the significance of the stay for their academic development and the objectives of the BARI project;
  • work towards the preparation of a scientific article in cooperation with a representative of BARI.

Publications resulting from the research stay should include the BARI affiliation and acknowledge co-financing from the JMN BARI project.

Application procedure
Applicants should submit the Application Form for BARI Research Internships (attached)

Deadline
Applications must be submitted by 30 November 2026.
The proposed research stay must begin no earlier than February 2027.
