My participation in the CEEPUS Exchange Program was an incredibly fulfilling experience that broadened my horizons in multiple ways. I immersed myself not only in Slovenia’s breathtaking natural landscapes and vibrant nightlife but, most importantly, in its educational environment. Coming from Bitola and studying at UACS in Skopje, I immediately noticed the contrast in student life between my home and Ljubljana. Both have their unique strengths, but Ljubljana – and especially the prestigious Faculty of Public Administration, where I had the pleasure of studying – offered a refreshingly positive, visually distinct, and welcoming academic atmosphere.
During my time in Ljubljana, I had the opportunity to attend classes such as “The Right to Health and Structural Aspects of Health,” “Canada-EU Relations,” “Information Technologies in the Public Sector,” and “EU Public Policies.” Each course provided a valuable insights and broadened my understanding of the public administration field. I now feel equipped with a solid foundation to actively engage in discussions related to these topics. The professors were undeniably professional and highly knowledgeable, and I would especially like to mention Prof. Mitja Durnik and Bruno Nikolic, both of whom left an unforgettable and positive impression on me. I am also deeply grateful to Rosvita Valant, the head of the International Office, whose dedication and support with accommodation and university matters greatly eased both my arrival and departure.
Outside the academic setting, I was deeply impressed by Slovenia’s natural beauty, which, while similar to Macedonia’s in some ways, offered its own unique charm. I had the chance to visit the picturesque Lake Bled, the sandy shores of Koper, and the sunny hills around Nova Gorica. I also had the pleasure of exploring Gorizia and Trieste across the border in Italy. And of course, Ljubljana itself deserves special mention. Though not a large city, it more than compensates with its historic old town, charming cobblestone streets, the iconic Ljubljana Castle, Dragon Bridge, Tivoli Park, and much more.
As for the colleagues, fellow exchange students, and friends I made along the way—it’s especially heartwarming to reflect on them now, and even more so to write about them, as I already miss them dearly. They were truly remarkable individuals, both intellectually and socially. We shared study sessions together, engaged in discussion together, and of course, went on unforgettable nights out together. I’m deeply grateful to have met them and to have shared this unique experience together.
To sum up this wonderful exchange experience, I can confidently say that it had a profound impact—not only on my academic understanding of public administration and my knowledge of Slovenia as a country, but also on me personally. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and into the unknown—alone, at least at first glance. I returned home and to my university with a broader global perspective and a renewed sense of energy and motivation.
I wholeheartedly recommend the CEEPUS exchange program to any student eager to expand their academic and personal horizons.
