Behind us is an international congress—the Congress on Minorities.

The situation of national, ethnic and linguistic minorities in Poland was discussed over two days. Topics included identity and cultural heritage, minority education, national and ethnic stereotypes, languages, history, demography, socio-political changes and related challenges. The ‘Congress on Minorities’, co-organised by the University of Opole, took place on 23 and 24 September 2025 at the Collegium Civitas UO, the Marshal’s Office of the Opole Province and the Opole Provincial Office.

The congress was held to mark the 20th anniversary of the Act of 6 January 2005 on national and ethnic minorities and regional languages. This document is of key importance for the cultural and ethnic diversity of Polish society. The deliberations touched upon scientific, social and, finally, administrative dimensions. They were attended by guests from Poland and abroad, including representatives of Polish state authorities, national and ethnic minorities from Poland and Europe, and even a representative of the UN Human Rights Commission.
