Wednesday, 13 September 2023 Excursions (separate registration & fee)
1. Opole – Kreisau – Wrocław Kreisau (Krzyżowa) is a village located in Lower Silesia. During WWII, an anti-Nazi opposition group (the Kreisau Circle), had met on the von Moltke estate. The members of the Kreisau Circle worked on plans to reconstruct Germany and Europe on the basis of democratic and Christian moral values. The Foundation Kreisau (Krzyżowa) is dedicated to deepening German-Polish dialogue and European understanding, referring to the aims of the founders of the Foundation, who in 1989 wanted to create a center for European dialogue and meetings in Krzyżowa. Moreover, the Foundation acts in recognition of the historical significance of the Polish-German Reconciliation Mass of 12 November 1989. The activity of Krzyżowa Foundation is based on International Youth Meeting Centre, Memorial Site and European Academy. Excursion will end in Wrocław train station and Wrocław airport.
2. Opole – Góra Św. Anny – Cieszyn – Katowice Góra Św. Anny (St. Annaberg) is a Silesian village, which was (and still is) very important memorial site of the Silesian Uprisings 1919-1921 which were PolishGerman armed conflicts on border delimitation in Silesia. The city of Cieszyn/Cesky Tesin is a twin city located on the Czech-Polish border. Because of its rich history and current social, political, and cultural dynamics the twin city is a very popular case study in the cross-border research. Excursion will end in Katowice train station and Katowice-Pyrzowice airport.
