As every spring, we are delighted to invite you to an event organised under the auspices of the Opole Branch of the Polish Political Science Association. This year’s seminar, whose leitmotif is “Biographies and Scholarship”, was inspired by two anniversaries: on 4 December last year, 50 years passed since the death of Hannah Arendt, and on 23 December, 50 years passed since the death of Józef Kokot.
At first glance, these two figures may seem to have little in common. However, beyond their exceptional importance for political science (including in our local context), they offer an intriguing opportunity to reflect on how biographical experiences shape academic work.
We invite you to join us in a discussion on the biographical experiences of Józef Kokot and Hannah Arendt as a key to better understanding their research, writings, and perspectives on political reality, as well as the broader significance of the biographical context in the academic work of scholars—both in the past and today.
