On the 50th anniversary of his death (23 December 1975), we commemorate Professor J\u00f3zef Kokot \u2013 a political scientist, historian, and lawyer; one of the first professors of political science in Poland (appointed in 1973) and a pioneer of political science studies in Opole.<\/p>
Throughout his academic career, Professor Kokot was closely associated with Opole \u2013 first with the Higher School of Education (now the University of Opole), and later with the Silesian Institute. His research interests led him to study contemporary challenges, particularly in the context of the Silesian region. His work went beyond description, offering pragmatic perspectives on political processes and decision-making based on in-depth historical analysis and a thorough understanding of current realities.<\/p>
Among the topics he explored were economic policy, international legal decisions concerning post-1945 borders and their political consequences, issues of nationality, international relations, Poland\u2019s foreign policy \u2013 especially towards neighbouring countries \u2013 as well as the political and economic development of the Oder River.<\/p>

Today, the Institute of Political Science and Public Administration continues the tradition of academic and research reflection on regional and border studies, issues related to national identity, and international relations, including Polish\u2013German relations.
The legacy of J\u00f3zef Kokot is also present in the space of our Faculty. In the Collegium Civitas building, the auditorium that hosts numerous academic and public outreach events bears the Professor\u2019s name, honouring his contribution and keeping his memory alive.<\/p>\n\n
